Our Trip To Frisco, Colorado
Just a little over a week ago my husband and I had the chance to join my sister and her husband in the gorgeous city of Frisco, CO. We had the best time, and I truly enjoyed every minute we were there. Okay, maybe not every minute, I got COLD and I don’t like to be cold. Once I warmed up a little though, so did my heart. 😆 Considering a trip to Frisco, Colorado? Continue reading to see some of the gems we uncovered there, and some of my favorite must see’s if you go!
Day 1: Travel & Arrival
On Friday, December 11, we departed San Antonio at a mild temperature of mid 60’s, and landed in Denver, CO at a COOL 24 degrees. The moment I left the airplane & walked into the tunnel that connects to the airport, I instantly felt like I was regretting my life choices. I wondered if I packed enough warm clothing, and wondered if I would survive the next few days. Dramatic much? Have I mentioned I am not a fan of cold weather!?
John and I picked up our bags, waited for Tiff & Jimmy to arrive, and then all of us piled in our rented SUV to make the 1:45 drive to our condo in Frisco. The drive was so incredibly gorgeous, and not having been in the mountains in over 10 years, it was a breathtaking sight to see all of the snow. We made a grocery run to Whole Foods to pick up breakfast & lunch items for the next couple of days, then headed home. Tired from a day of travel, we ordered takeout from a local restaurant called Tavern West, the food was SO delicious. I highly recommend checking them out if you are ever in the area!
Day 2: Ski Day
Our first full day in CO was spent on the ski slopes! The ski lifts in Colorado were only accepting limited capacity, so we made reservations ahead of time. We visited Ski Cooper Resort in Leadville, and I loved the quiet, less busy atmosphere of the mountain. The last time I had gone skiing was my senior year in high school, so I was nervous that the 15 year gap would prove troublesome. I was honestly surprised at how quickly it came back to me.
The 4 of us tackled some greens & blues and had so much fun. Towards the end of the day we were even adventurous enough to go on a few black trails. It was snowing pretty heavily throughout our day there. I put together a video of our ski day, and linked it below for you to watch. After a long day of skiing, we ordered takeout from Frisco again, this time from Bagali’s restaurant. They had a delicious GF pizza, and an incredible salad to compliment.
Day 3: Hiking Day
On our 3rd day in Colorado, my sister gave to me, a 6 mile hike and a memorable adventure for us three. 😆 We got up and went to a hiking trail that my sister picked out from her All Trails app. We hiked to Mohawk Lake just outside Breckenridge, CO. The hike was an adventure to say the least. At that altitude, and having layers upon layers of clothing, I found myself out of breath more often than not.
We climbed the mountain & found some amazing scenery along the way. Cabins, pulley systems, water wells… It was crazy to picture what life may have been like back in the old days. If you know me at all, you know that I am obsessed with old things, and I am an old soul. Little House On The Prairie? I used to day dream about living in that time period. I still do sometimes, picturing an older, simpler life.
The summit of our hike was met with some INTENSE winds. Like, miserable, terrible winds that blew cold snow on you and hurt your face. I didn’t even bother posing for a picture at the top because I couldn’t wait to get back down the mountain a little & out of the wind. I did pause long enough to take a picture of my sister & John. The real MVP’s. Haha!
The hike DOWN the mountain was 1000 times easier than up. A few parts we sat on our butt & slid down the snow. It had snowed so much that most parts of the trails were knee deep. We made it out alive, and we treated ourselves to a trip to a winery for a tasting. We sat outdoors at the Continental Divide Winery due to covid restrictions, but they had a cute fire bowl area set up, and the wine was delicious! My sister & John ordered the red flight, and I of course ordered the whites. We came home with a bottle of red & white, and I look forward to enjoying them one day soon. After wine tasting we headed back to Frisco & ordered dinner from 5th Ave Grille. I had the pork tenderloin with veggies, mashed potatoes, and a salad. SO GOOD!
Day 4: Departure Back Home
Our final day was another travel day. We got up, packed up our things, and set out for our trip back to the Denver airport. We stopped just outside of Frisco in the town of Dillon, and visited the CUTEST souvenir shop called Everything Colorado. I had stalked — I mean, visited their instagram page the night before, and was excited to visit in person. They had some really cute items that we were able to grab for the family before coming home. A quick check in at the airport, and a 2 hour flight home, and we were back in TX reunited with our babies.
I absolutely loved our time in CO, and I am thankful for the trips that John and I have been able to take on our own. I always feel SO guilty traveling without the kids, but in the few recent years that John and I have ventured off on our own, I realize how much it is needed to spend some quality time together. Until next time CO!
