Salad Dressings That Are Perfect For The FASTer Way To Fat Loss Program
I had a client reach out to me today who is starting the FASTer Way To Fat Loss program with me, and she asked about salad dressings. I realized this is probably a topic of concern for a lot of people, myself included, so of course, what does a blogger do? #bloggersgonnablog Today I’ll be sharing a list of salad dressings, homemade and store bought, that are perfect if you are starting the FASTer Way To Fat Loss program. These are also great dressings if you are looking to reduce inflammation in your body. Feel free to pin this blog post, or save it to your bookmarks, as I will likely be updating it with new finds!
First off, what kind of dressing are we looking to use in the FASTer Way?
We are looking for simple, natural ingredients, with no added refined sugars or preservatives. We are going to try to stick to anti-inflammatory oils such as olive oil, coconut oil (MCT oils), and avocado oil.
Try and avoid processed & inflammatory oils such as canola oil, safflower oil, sunflower oil, and soybean oil. And again, no added sugars, preservatives, artificial ingredients, or flavorings.
So what does that leave me to choose?
If you are feeling overwhelmed, please don’t! It’s my mission to share with both my client’s and my readers that living a healthy and fit lifestyle does not have to be hard work. It just takes some research, a little bit of digging, and knowledge on the topic. So let’s dive in to some of my favorites, both homemade and store bought.
Homemade Dressing Options
Making your own dressing is not as time consuming as it may seem. If you are not a “prepper” and want to make it on the spot, if you have a few staples on hand, you can easily throw a few ingredients into a bowl, whisk together, and pour over your salad. If you do like to prep ahead, you can make a batch of homemade dressing, and use through the week. Typically homemade dressings last about a week in the refrigerator, so it works out perfectly to try a new batch or recipe each week.
First up: RANCH. A classic, and staple in my house.
Whole Sisters Dump Ranch is hands down my favorite. I have been making it regularly for 3 years now, and it never lets me down. It is made with olive oil and coconut milk as it’s base, and tastes SO amazing.
You can find the recipe here, and if you like to watch tutorial videos, I vlogged about it here. (That’s how much I love it. Haha)
Next up, is one from our FASTer Way Meal Plan, and literally could not be an easier recipe. Honey Lime Vinaigrette. It is made up with olive oil, lime juice, and honey. Easy peasy!
Next is a tangy, yet sweet dressing. Honey Apple Cider Vinaigrette by the Natural Fit Foodie. She shares in this post that a general rule of thumb for dressings like this, mix 3 parts oil, and 1 part acid (whether that be vinegar, lemon juice, lime juice, etc).
From this blog post, I’ve learned that you can very easily mix up dressings “on the spot”. When I am crunched for time, or haven’t prepped anything, I like to mix up olive oil and lemon juice with some salt/pepper/garlic, for a tasty lemon garlic vinaigrette. This is also a good option for when you are at a restaurant, no shame in mixing up a little dressing at your table! Just ask for a little oil and/or vinegar, and lemon slices and you are good to go!
Next up, The Real Food Dietitians, Green Goddess Dressing. I make this dressing exactly as described, and especially love that she uses nutpods creamer (original flavor – don’t accidentally use French Vanilla like I did the first time, haha), and it is SO good and creamy! (If you have missed my posts on these coffee creamers, be sure to take a look here. I am an ambassador for the company, only because I am OBSESSED with them! You can use code TINASCHOENFELDT at nutpods.com for 15% off your first order.
I have not personally tried this next dressing, but as I was researching dressing options for my client, I came across THIS one. OMG. Sign me up and add this to my list of YES PLEASE. Homemade Italian Dressing (rumored to be better than Olive Garden). No further explanation needed, I will be making this one SOON, and will be sure to update the blog!
There are so many recipe ideas on Pinterest, I encourage you to take a look! I typed in “all natural salad dressings” — and the biggest thing I look for is the main oil ingredient.
Now let’s talk shopping for store bought dressings!
The dressings that I am about to list, can ALL be found on the Thrive Market website. If you haven’t shopped there before, or considered a membership, I encourage you to check it out! Your membership pretty much pays for itself, in the savings you get on these healthy products, PLUS, they get delivered straight to your door. How perfect is THAT?
So first item on the list…When I previously participated in the Whole 30 program, I fell in love with Tessemae’s products. Whole 30 approved, no added sugars or preservatives. But the only drawback that I have found is the fact that they use sunflower oil as a main base. In smaller amounts, these dressings are still a good option, however, we need to be watchful of the inflammatory oil.
Next, Thrive market has a great line of dressings, under their own brand name. They have Honey Mustard, Greek, and Green Goddess.
Primal Kitchen is another favorite brand for eating this lifestyle. They make some great mayo, and they make some really great salad dressings too. Most of their dressings are made from avocado oil.
Fody Foods has an excellent line of Low FODMAP foods, and healthy/clean dressings! I haven’t personally tried the salad dressings, but will be adding some to my pantry very soon.
I also love to shop local!
Recently I stopped by Good Juju in Adkins, and they carry a selection of salads and dressings from Green Bexar Farm. SO tasty! If you are local, be sure to give them a shout! Green Bexar farms also attends the Pearl farmers market, so if you don’t make it out into our neck of the woods, but are in San Antonio, be sure to swing by. (Tell them Tina sent you! :)) I do believe they also ship, so be sure to check out their page. If you want to read about my visit there you can read my blog post here.
I hope this post has been very helpful, it was alot of fun to write and share. If you are interested in having me coach you in the FASTer Way, I would love for you to join my next round. Have a wonderful week!!
