DIY Faux Marble Shelving
I recently shared my office makeover in a blog post, and I had a lot of questions about the marble shelves! I’m excited to share with you ALL the details about them.
First little secret… THEY AREN’T MARBLE!
Would you believe me if I told you they were a plain piece of pine wood wrapped in a marble print contact paper? I have pictures of the DIY process to prove it to you. 🙂
I went this route because honestly, I searched high and low for shelving to fit in the space that I had on my office wall. I could not find the right length, the right width, color, etc. I had a very specific look in mind, so that’s when I decided I would make them myself.
First step, decide how large and how long you want the shelf. I bought an 8 ft long board so that I could cut it in half to make two 4 ft shelves. If you have access to a saw, this is an option for you, otherwise, you’re going to want to buy it the length you need it, or have someone at the hardware store cut it for you!
Next step was picking out the contact paper, and beginning the wrapping process! I wrapped each short end first, then wrapped the long edges.
Final step is to mount your hardware and put it on the wall!
I found these shelving brackets at Home Depot, and spray painted them the most gorgeous gold color. (Again, DIY is the way to go when you have a very specific look you want to carry out!)
There are a few spots on my edges that didn’t quite stick as well as I would like, but you can pop it with a tiny little pin, and scrape it out with a credit card/squeegee type tool. The contact paper adhered pretty well to the raw wood, but I know it is optimal to adhere to a finished piece of wood as well. Either way, I think you will be happy with the final look! I know I was!
That’s all for today, hope you enjoyed this tutorial!
