Fried Green Tomatoes (Gluten Free & Dairy Friendly)
These fried green tomatoes are a fantastic way to use up those not-yet-ripe garden gems. Whether you're serving them up as an appetizer, side dish, or just a savory snack, they're sure to bring a touch of Southern flair to your meal.
Ingredients
- 3 medium-sized green tomatoes freshly picked and sliced
- A few tablespoons of ghee for frying
- 2 eggs
- A splash of milk use a dairy-free alternative if necessary
- 1/2 cup gluten-free breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup gluten-free flour
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese or dairy-free alternative
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tsp dried dill adjust according to taste
- Fresh lemon juice optional, for serving
Instructions
Prepare the Frying Pan:
- Heat a frying pan over medium heat and add a few tablespoons of ghee.
Breading:
- In one bowl, create an egg wash by whisking together the eggs and milk.
- In another bowl, mix the gluten-free breadcrumbs, gluten-free flour, Parmesan cheese, salt, pepper, and dried dill.
Fry the Tomatoes:
- Dip each tomato slice first in the egg wash, then coat thoroughly in the breadcrumb mixture.
- Arrange the breaded tomato slices in the frying pan. Cook until each side is crispy and golden brown, flipping once.
- Transfer the cooked tomatoes to a plate. Optionally, add a squeeze of fresh lemon juice and a sprinkle of salt over the hot tomatoes.
