A Blogger In The News Room
Today I had the opportunity to join Daytime With Kimberly & Esteban on Fox News here in San Antonio. This was my first experience on LIVE TV, and I had SO much fun! I have done so many Facebook lives I have lost count, but there is something about a network television live segment that puts a little bit of anxiety on a girl. I was a little nervous, and honestly, the 20 minute wait in the green room was where my nerves got the most of me. But as I walked into the studio, and got to take in the sights and sounds around me, (SO many bright lights & cameras), I started to feel almost “in my element”. It’s a weird way to describe it, I know, because I have never set foot in a news room before.
Much less a live set.
Still, I guess you can say I am definitely in my element getting to talk about products, and bringing useful information to my audience. In fact, Kimberly made a funny point that I hadn’t thought about before. She asked me how to pronounce my last name before we started (I don’t blame her, it’s a doozy!) I said Show-en-felt. And she said “wow, like Show & Tell! It’s just meant to be with what you are doing today!” I’ve never thought of that, I do a lot of “Show & Tell” with y’all… And now I have a reason. 😀
So as for my actual time there. When I arrived (in the rain), the front receptionist welcomed me in to sign in, and a security guard walked with me to the “Green Room”. If you watched my Insta stories, you saw me chatting with y’all from in there.
The producer then came in a bit later to get me “mic-ed up”. Which is fancy term for attaching the microphone device to my belt, and clipping the speaker part to my shirt. She told me when my actual LIVE time would be, and said she would be back in a bit to get me. This is the part that I started to feel anxious. And watch the clock. And watch the news that was on. Which was funny because I could hear the news on the TV, along with the echo of it happening in the other room.
The producer came back for me, and she walked me to the studio. Like I said above, I loved seeing all of the lights, cameras, and I watched Kimberly & Esteban finish up a clip before going to a commercial break. It was fun to watch everyone go “off camera” after that, and that’s when I got to actually meet them, and talk for a brief second before going to get set up for our turn. I mean there was no time to waste!
During the segment, I felt like it was easy to get into a comfortable conversation with both hosts, and share about these fun products. I was vaguely aware of the person flashing time cards behind the camera though, 4 mins…3 mins…2 mins… This part immediately made me think of one of my favorite shows, Food Network Star, where all of the contestants are really put to the test in filming for their shows. You have the contestants who stop talking at 2 minutes left, and there’s this awkward silence, and you have the contestants who get cut off mid sentence, because they ran OUT of time.
I didn’t want to be that person.
So I tried to look at the time, but also, tried to not forget what I was saying about the items. The hosts were really amazing and fun to work with too, so I feel that definitely helps. Overall, this was such a fun experience.
And, I am actually pretty confident I’m ready to do another one!
I just want to share a big thank you to Fox 29, and Kimberly & Esteban, for having me.
Thank you to Kylie, my point of contact at Brilliant PR & Marketing for these fun and educational toys.
And thank you to Jennifer Kipp, my friend and leader at SATX Babes Who Create.
If you missed the live clip — here is a link to watch! Plus it has info for all of the fun products that I shared.
I also have all of the products linked on LTK if you want to shop there. <3
