Spring Planting in Texas Zone 9a
Spring planting in Texas Zone 9a is a gardener’s dream, and in this episode of “Homegrown & Homemade,” we’re sharing every detail of how we bring our spring garden to life. From the initial layout plans to the final touch of watering our newly planted seeds and plants, we’re covering all bases to ensure a flourishing start to the season.
Garden Layout & Planning
It all starts with a pen and paper, making a list and sketching out where each plant and seed will go in our raised beds. It’s crucial to visualize the garden space, plus our likes and dislikes, to maximize growth and ensure harmony among the plants.
This year, we’re introducing the following mix of seeds and plants:
- Seeds: Green beans, cucumbers, squash, zucchini, carrots (orange and rainbow), lettuces, okra, eggplant, cantaloupe, watermelon, radishes, and herbs like basil, rosemary, lavender, and dill.
- Plants: We’re focusing on peppers and tomatoes as transplants, given their success rate when started as plants in our Texas climate.
