What Happens When You Say YES

I had a beautiful friend order a Younique presenter kit yesterday. When I got the email that she had chosen me to be her sponsor, I had 100 different emotions go through my brain. I wanted to share some of those feelings and my thoughts on what REALLY goes on behind the scenes of this Younique company I talk about so much.

First off, if you are still reading this, congrats. You are not one of the ones that sees the name of a Direct Sales company and turns your nose up at it. It is no surprise these words for whatever reason throw up red flags and SUCH controversy in today’s society.
MLM.
Direct Sales.
Network Marketing.
My question to you is WHY? In a decade where online shopping is KING, and more and more retails stores are closing their doors. In a world where you get the chance to support your friend, your sister, your cousin, aunt, mom, grandma? Real life people? Companies that change lives. Companies that make an impact on giving back to the less fortunate. Companies who are investing hugely in the individuals who market their product.

You’re right… Ew. Why would I want any of that?

I’m not here to change their mind. I’m not here to fight this battle and start a huge debate on whether or not I should grow up and “get a real job”. (actual words spoken to me)
I am here to tell you MY facts. MY experience. And tell you about what happens when you say yes to MY company.

A girl can join Younique for any number of reasons. The two top ones pretty much boil down to this.
+She may be saying YES to herself, and her family, and is ready to launch an online business.
-OR-
+She may be saying YES to an awesome deal on some great products, and wants to enjoy a lifetime discount on future purchases.
Whatever the reason for joining, the one thing that is true for ALL reasons. She is now a part of an amazing sisterhood that reaches across the world.

When I get the email, no where in that process do I think, this is about me. I am TRULY and 100% thrilled to have HER experience this company for herself. I am thrilled for HER to feel beautiful and obsessed with that beautiful kit that comes in the mail. I am thrilled for HER to get to play with makeup, and feel confident in her own skin. I am thrilled for HER to have the WORLD at her fingertips with this opportunity, should she choose to pursue it. I am thrilled for HER to join the community of women who will immediately welcome her with open arms. I am thrilled for HER to have the support and resources, and not ever have to walk this journey alone. I am thrilled for HER to say yes because SHE matters.

Sound like a selfish network marketer just out for people to join my team? Hardly.

I can tell you ALL day how amazing a recipe is, but until you actually TASTE it for yourself, there is no way to actually know. So I am not going to list out all the amazing things that Younique has been for me, and the countless women that I get to do life with. Because none of that fully matters unless you see it for yourself.

I am not going to shove it down your throat. I am not going to message you out of the blue with something random and say “Hey girl! I haven’t talked to you since high school, but how about you join my team?” NO!!!!

I KNOW there are a TON of people out there who do that, and I’m sorry it’s putting a bad taste in your mouth on this thing called network marketing. That is why I am ranting, (writing). I am choosing to stand up for the good ones.

If you are IN a network marketing company, I challenge you to take a look at yourself. This world is a better place when you care more about others than you care about yourself. Do your customers, friends, and family feel that from you? I challenge you to take a hard look at yourself. I know this is rough on a Wednesday morning, but honestly challenge yourself this week to care more about them than you do about you. Don’t beat yourself up about it either. I am NOT perfect, I am not standing up here on a soapbox saying I am flawless, and y’all are all just messed up. No, I have learned and grown in the past 3 years of being with this company. I have made mistakes. I have had the wrong mindset before. But I have come out stronger, wiser, and PASSIONATE about encouraging you to get to that place as well.

And if you are on the flip side and just have friends/family who are in network marketing. I am spreading awareness that these companies truly do make an impact on every day people like you and me. I am asking for a little grace, and a little mindset change the next time someone asks you if you want to check out their new mascara, new earrings, new book, new kids clothes. Give them a chance. They are running a business, they are doing work in a market that is TOUGH. Show some love and grace today.

If I ruffled some feathers today, I have to say I’m glad. Great things don’t come out of our comfort zones. They come when our feathers are a little ruffled, we feel a little uncomfortable, and we have to stop and think about why we’re doing something. That’s when the REAL stuff happens.
